A dazzling movie that fits an entire universe into one day, in one house. Events are seen through the eyes of seven-year-old Sol, who is in the midst of nervous preparations for a family party. Someone drinks too much, a cake burns, the woman next door exorcises evil spirits, and a seemingly innocent exchange can cause an explosion. Sol explores a house full of nooks and crannies, gets a little bored, eavesdrops a little, and waits for the moment when she can see her father. From the crumbs of everyday life, from the way the cluttered house is lit, from her childhood observations, Mexican filmmaker Lila Avilés builds her own totem: a cinematic myth, an ancestral portrait, an image that connects the living with the spirits.

Urodzona w 1982 roku. Meksykańska reżyserka filmowa, scenarzystka i producentka. W czasie studiów w Mexico City zetknęła się między innymi ze znaną dramaturżką Ximeną Escalante i reżyserką Paulą Markovitch. W 2018 roku zrealizowała swój pełnometrażowy debiut The Chambermaid, który miał swoją premierę na MFF w Toronto. Za Totem otrzymała Nagrodę Jury Ekumenicznego na tegorocznym Berlinale.

Born in 1982, Mexican film director, screenwriter and producer. During her studies in Mexico City, she came into contact with the renowned playwright Ximena Escalante and director Paula Markovitch, among others. In 2018 she made her feature debut, The Chambermaid, which premiered at the Toronto IFF. She won the Ecumenical Jury Prize at this year’s Berlinale for Totem.
