Winner of the latest Berlin Film Festival, the newest work from the director of the award-winning The Teachers’ Lounge. Derya and Aziz are an acclaimed artist couple from Ankara. She is a respected actress, while he is a professor of dramaturgy at the university. They lead a happy, fulfilled life with their thirteen-year-old daughter, Ezgi. When an incident occurs at the premiere of their new play, everything changes in an instant. The protagonists suddenly become targets of state repression, losing their jobs, income, and apartment. Forced to move to Istanbul, the family temporarily stays with Aziz’s mother. While Aziz works odd jobs, clinging desperately to his convictions, Derya takes a more pragmatic approach, searching for a way to gain financial independence. In the face of poverty, lost status, and the erosion of their private lives, the couple must make a dramatic choice between staying true to their values and their shared future. Inspired by true events, the film depicts how state politics destroy relationships and force people to redefine their identity. The titular „yellow lists” refer to an unofficial—and illegal under Turkish labor law—index of employees deemed „problematic”: disloyal or undesirable, most often due to their union and political activity. Individuals put on these lists are monitored, subjected to discrimination and dismissal under the guise of other infractions, and passed over for promotions and raises.
